Review: The Windsors Royal Wedding Special
DVD: The Windsors Royal Wedding Special (2018)
Following on from the success of The Windsors, a Royal Wedding Special arrives on DVD to coincide with…surprise, surprise, the Royal Wedding fervour that has swept the globe recently.
For those of you not familiar with the The Windsors, then I urge you to go back and watch the previous series which spoofs the British Royal family in a hilarious satirical way…here is a show to ruffle the feathers of any hardcore royalists.
You don’t need to have watched the previous shows to enjoy this Royal Wedding special, but it definitely helps to flesh out the nuances of the performances and the crazy backstories which have been associated with each character: Kate (Louise Ford) being a gypsy who loves getting behind the decks as a DJ, Pippa (Morgana Robinson) and her evil infatuation with Harry (Richard Goulding), Princess Anne (Vicki Pepperdine) who floats rather than walks and appears as if by magic, Harry who has a mind that mostly focuses on booze and bonking…each character has their own particular quirks which always raises a smile…our favourites here at 60MW Towers are Beatrice (Ellie White) and Eugenie (Celeste Dring) whose inept attempts at gaining paying employment always end drastically.
Like most television weddings, things never run smoothly, and in this special episode there are numerous events that don’t go to plan. Harry and Meghan (Kathryn Drysdale) take Charles (Harry Enfield) to America to meet Meghan’s mother, but without his usual entourage, Charles finds it hard to cope. Harry goes missing from his stag night. William (Hugh Skinner) and Kate are finding having a 3rd child difficult. Camilla (Haydn Gwynne), as usual, plots as many evil plans as she can, and Pippa finds it hard to control her jealousy at Harry getting married.
I’d like to think that members of the Royal Family actually watch this…and possibly laugh too. My money is on Harry tuning in and watching it while having a beer.
If you’re a staunch royalist then you’ll probably be offended, but for the rest of us, The Windsors Royal Wedding Special is a silly, satirical, and most definitely funny alternative look at an event that will be forever remembered…I hope Kate got on the decks at the night do!
