Singer, Simon Gordon, said, “I think the song was one of the first we wrote for this album. Its heavy riff certainly set the tone and is indicative of where Kev’s head is at right now. I suppose it’s inevitable that these songs come from a slightly darker place.”
He continued, “I happened to be reading about the Comanche tribes and there were some cool phrases and couplings that I thought would work. I tried to avoid the whole ‘Run To The Hills’ story arc, so I made it more general. If I can put on my pretentious hat for a moment, it’s about the whole transience of human existence – put to a hard rock riff!! Ha!
“The song came together pretty quickly and producer, Guy Davies (Empire Studios, Guilford) captured our best within just a few takes.”
The last 2 years have been a tough road for Black Whiskey. Guitarist, Kevin Ingles was diagnosed with cancer following the release of debut album, Heavy Train, and treatment for that has taken its toll. Songwriting, rehearsals and recording for the new album have all needed to be worked around treatment plans and just the ability to function. But, the band are a tight-knit unit and have worked through these challenges to produce a hard-hitting album that will be released in April 2019.
