Review: Narc
Blu-ray: Narc (2002)
After a drugs bust gone badly wrong, undercover vice officer (and recovered drug addict) Nick Tellis (Jason Patric) wants a quiet desk job, and reluctantly agrees to take the case of a murdered policeman, with the help of that policeman’s seemingly violent and unstable ex-partner – Henry Oak (Ray Liotta).
Narc is an odd film, a great story and solid performances from a good cast, yet it seems to be one of those films that slipped under the radar on its release. Very reminiscent of William Friedkin’s films, it’s a gritty ultra violent police story that could be a ‘true story’, with a twist, and watching this I’m quite amazed that Jason Patric more or less disappeared from view afterwards, as his performance rivals Liotta’s.
Revisiting this film was a pleasure, and it’s another one of those classic’s that needs to be rediscovered by today’s audiences…even more so when accompanied by a slew of fantastic special features.
Narc is also released on 4K UHD.
