Review: Deep Star Six 4K UHD
Deep Star Six (1989)
The period 1989-90 saw an influx of movies set underwater: Leviathan, The Abyss, The Rift, plus others.
However, Deep Star Six has always been a particular favourite of mine and one which I rented many times (and eventually bought) on VHS. Now released on 4K UHD for the 1st time, it was an absolute treat to sit back and watch this with fantastic picture quality and sound.
The story isn’t too deep…see what I did there!?, but it sure as hell is enjoyable…especially the performance by the always unforgettable Miguel Ferrer (R.I.P.)
In the final days of an underwater Navy research mission, a reckless attempt to destroy a newly discovered deep-sea cavern unleashes something ancient and deadly. As a mysterious creature begins picking off crew members one by one, the survivors face a desperate fight for survival amid reactor failures, flooding compartments, and mounting paranoia. Part monster movie, part claustrophobic disaster thriller, DeepStar Six dives headfirst into late-’80s creature-feature territory, delivering plenty of underwater tension and practical-effects carnage along the way.
With special features including 3 audio commentaries and much more, this 4K UHD debut for the movie is well worth buying.
