Review: Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey 4K UHD
It would be very lazy of me to write that Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey is “most excellent” or ‘non-heinous’, but it’s nigh on impossible not to have a certain speech pattern reverberating around your head after watching (or in my case; rewatching) this movie. Whether I did a quick rockin’ air guitar lick between paragraphs, I’ll leave you to make your mind up on.
A sequel to 1989’s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, this throws in some extra Bill & Ted due to their evil robot doubles, which are sent back from the future to stop Bill & Ted winning the music competition which led to them shaping the world and defining the future.
The best addition though is William Sadler as the Grim Reaper, who steals every scene that he is in. How the character appears and what he does though, I’ll leave you to find out if you somehow haven’t watched it yet.
While the craziness of the characters isn’t the big attraction that it was in ‘Excellent Adventure’, both Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves are once again very watchable and bounce of each other (both figuratively and physically) really well.
The dated visual effects are all the more apparent in this 4K release, but despite distracting from the narrative, they added a certain silly charm to everything that was going on…and watch out for how much easier it is to spot when body doubles are being used!
The picture quality is great and the colours really pop, plus when it goes into black and white, the extra contrast makes a great difference too.
The special features are once agin the icing on the cake and add hours more enjoyment to what is already a very enjoyable movie.
