Review: Killer Party
Killer Party blends 2 popular movie genres of the 80s; the slasher movie & the college movie, though doesn’t really shine in either of them. That’s not to say that it’s a bad movie, it just (for me at least) falls into the “could/should have been better” category.
The narrative is quite simple; 3 female friends want to join a college fraternity, nobody knowing that the frat house has an evil demonic spirit waiting to posses people and send them on a killing spree. Throw in the usual male college gang consisting of the tried and trusted grouping of nerd, jock, sex pest, etc, and you basically have the 90 minutes of Killer Party…oh, and of course the whole cast are way over the age of the characters they are playing…another staple of 80s horror movies set in colleges.
Killer Party is “okay”. Not great, but not bad. It all plays out very slowly, with no real action until the final act, but by then you’ve sort of lost interest in anyone.
The humour is very of its time and would probably offend people of the current generation…they’d probably have a panic attack if they ever watched the Porky’s or Lemon Popsicle series of movies!
It’s always good to see movies I watched on VHS back in the day get a blu-ray release with better picture quality and special features, and in that department Arrow Films do their usual great job of putting the lesser known titles onto a better format.
The special features are enjoyable, especially the brand new audio commentary by film critic Stacie Ponder.
If you’ve never watched Killer Party and you love all kinds of horror movies, then it’s worth picking up. And of course if you already enjoy the movie, then this is a must buy. Casual horror movie viewers however, may well want to pass.
