Review: Coherence
DVD: Coherence (2013)
A group of early-thirties, middle class, American friends (Nicolas Brendon, Emily Baldoni) gather for a dinner party as a comet passes overhead. Things quickly begin to goβ¦βweirdβ.
One of my favourite films for the last few years is the Indie Sci-fi Another Earth, it has a really original feel to it, and here we have its successor. Although it seems somewhat influenced by The Twilight Zone in content, Coherence is a satisfying, intelligent story concentrating on a group of people whose mobile phones stop working, and without technology, start to surreally spiral into some sort of madness.
Sinister multi-dimensions suggest that all possible realities are about to blow up, and the hint that this is happening to everyone in turn, makes it an intriguing view because it treats its audience as an equal.
If you like intelligent Sci-fi films (there are no big bangs or ray guns in this, just a real sense of foreboding) and are a fan of (Brit Marlingβs) Another Earth and The Voices, youβll enjoy this.
