Review: Creepshow Season One

I loved watching the original Creepshow series back in the 1980s along with the movies too, so I was very happy indeed when horror streaming channel Shudder began showing a new series back in 2019.

With Creepshow series 4 debuting on Friday 13th October 2023, it is the perfect time for Acorn Media International to release the previous 3 series on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital, each packed with some great special features.

Creepshow is a horror anthology series which more often than not keeps its tongue firmly in its cheek…until it might get ripped out! Balancing thrills, chills and humour in the most delightful of ways, hooking you into that “just one more episode” feeling until you suddenly find that you’ve watched them all.

Season 1 arrived here and includes a young girl who discovers a strange new toy in her newly acquired dollhouse; a platoon of desperate American soldiers who try to escape Nazi capture with an unlikely plan; a lonely man  who finds a human finger  hat seems to be growing; a scarecrow that’s brought to life  with terrifying results; a murder that gets complicated; lake monsters rearing their ugly head and disturbing weight – loss treatments.

Each episode is highly entertaining, with blood spilling and gore closely followed by some laughs and giggles to alleviate the tension, all mixed up in stories that can have you guessing as to what may happen next, and even when you may have worked it all out, the journey to the end credits is still just as enjoyable.
