Review: D.A.R.Y.L.
Blu-ray & DVD: D.A.R.Y.L. (1985)
A young boy is being driven at high speed in a car while a helicopter chases them. Stopping briefly, the driver tells the boy to get out and run into the woods, before then driving away, only to crash and burn on a sharp bend.
Alone in the woods, the boy is finally discovered by a man and wife who take him in and care for him as their own.
Something is not quite right with the boy though. He is seemingly too ‘perfect’: studious at school, polite and respectful at home…he even hits a mean home run in baseball and is immediately brought into the local little league team.
The perfect family lifestyle is soon disrupted when the boys real parents show up and demand that he returns to his original home with them.
This however, is just the beginning of revelations that will shock them all.
D.A.R.Y.L. is fantastic family entertainment that delivers thrills, laughter and nostalgia in equal measure. Not to mention a peek into what was considered ‘high-tech’ back in 1985.
Great performances from all the cast draw you into an exciting family drama where you genuinely care for all of the characters, and the story goes in directions that at first you weren’t expecting.
If you enjoy more ‘high-profile’ 1980’s kids adventure movies such as The Goonies, then D.A.R.Y.L. most definitely should be on your ‘to buy’ list…and it’s never looked as good as on the Blu-ray release from Fabulous Films.
