Review: Dark Water Limited Edition 4K UHD
4K UHD: Dark Water (2002)
If you think you’ve got problems just because you have a dripping tap in the bathroom or kitchen, then watching Dark Water will certainly make you re-evaluate that thought process.
While in the middle of a messy divorce from her husband, Yoshimi Matsubara (Hitomi Kuroki) finally gets custody of their young daughter Ikuko (Rio Kanno) and seeks a place for them to live.
Finding an affordable living space, though in a slightly dilapidated apartment block, they move in and start a new phase of their lives.
It’s not too long before a water stain appears on Yoshimi’s bedroom ceiling and water begins appearing in various places. Yoshimi also starts catching glimpses of a young girl in her peripheral vision.
So begins a slow burn tale that gets the hairs on the back of your neck raising one by one as the tension and the narrative unfolds.
Not reliant on jump scares, Dark Water is confident in its ability to keep you guessing as to what will happen next, using the characters point of view to see what they see as it all unfolds, with the characters turning their heads slowly to reveal what may, or may not, be there.
Beautifully shot and with a well crafted soundscape, this 4K UHD release is a great addition to anyones collection.
