Review: Deep Blue Sea 3
DVD & Digital HD: Deep Blue Sea 3 (2020)
Emma Collins (Tania Raymonde) is a marine biologist and has set up a mid-ocean laboratory called “Little Happy”, where her and her team are observing Great White sharks and the effect that climate change is having on them.
Unfortunately, the enhanced Bull Sharks that escaped in Deep Blue Sea 2 are also there with their own evolutionary goal: cross-breeding with the bigger faster Great Whites and generally killing anything that gets in their way.
Enter Richard Lowell (Nathaniel Buzolic) and his crew, a man who has a past with Emma and who believes that the Bull Sharks contain the key to intelligence enhancement, which he secretly intends to sell for big profits…at any cost.
Despite carrying on from the previous Deep Blue Sea movies, and referencing certain things from them, it is not a prerequisite to have watched either of them to enjoy this 3rd instalment of shark based action…and enjoy it I did.
Going into it with certain reservations (the 2nd instalment left me disappointed after the very enjoyable original movie) I soon found myself wrapped up in the action, caring for the characters, and vocally “woohooing” on more than one occasion.
The cgi effects (with only a couple of exceptions) I found to be very convincing and drew me deeper into everything that was happening. While the characters, although slightly clichéd, were all very good, with special mention to Bren Foster who plays Richard’s sidekick Lucas and who I’m saying nothing more about so as not to spoil anything.
I had a lot of fun watching Deep Blue Sea 3, and for a lower budget 3rd instalment of a shark movie franchise, this certainly kept me very entertained.
