Review: Hell or High Water 4K UHD
Hell or High Water (2016)
Written by cowboy wonder, Taylor Sheridan, and amazingly directed by Brit David Mackenzie (you’d think it would be Peter Berg),Concentrating only on the bank that has no camera’s and the one that tried to take their recently discovered oil rich land; Texas Midlands Bank. Toby is desperate that his sons won’t be as poor as he is and plans the robberies, asking Tanner to help him. But Tanner is unpredictable and violent, and Toby’s plans go awry attracting the notice of Texas rangers Alberto and Marcus (Bridges) who is about to retire.
You could call this a post modern western, or a neo-western, or even a modern western crime drama, and coming from the mind of Sheridan, you know you’re in for a treat, as his take on the modern West has been the most popular thing to stream on the subject, he doesn’t shy away from the truth of it, the poverty, the money-divide, the Indian heritage. He’s a great writer and story teller and this is a simple story of bank robbing through desperation.
Hell or High water is just one of those films…a western/crime that is a true classic, worthy of its place next to The Brothers Sisters, Hostiles, Wind River (also Sheridan), and Old Henry.
Fantastic.
