Review: Inside
Blu-ray: Inside (2007)
Heavily pregnant and living alone since the death of her husband after a car accident, Sarah (Alysson Paradis) gets an unexpected visitor on Christmas Eve who is intent on taking away her unborn baby in the most horrific way imaginable.
17 years after its original release, Inside (original title À l’intérieur) is still just as shocking and nail biting as it was back then, complete with bloody practical effects that will have you wincing as you watch. All made even more stomach churning thanks to the crisp and colourful visuals on this new limited edition Blu-ray release by Second Sight Films.
Sarah’s decent from grieving wife to borderline psychotic mother-to-be is brilliantly portrayed by Alysson Paradis, with many harrowing scenes surely taking a toll on her both physically and mentally as the narrative unfolds.
This is counterbalanced by Béatrice Dalle playing the unnamed visitor, whose unflinching and unfeeling demeanour makes her come across as an almost ‘Terminator-like’ figure, zeroed in on her one mission (to get the unborn baby) and not letting anything or anyone get in her way.
2 new audio commentaries on the special features help to bring an new appreciation and insight into the movie, along with some interesting and informative interviews with cast and crew.
A chilling slice of horror from the New French Extremity releases of the early 2000’s that still cuts just as deep today (pun fully intended).
