Review: Jason Goes to Hell Ltd Ed 4K UHD
4K UHD Blu-ray: Jason Goes to Hell (1993)
Jason Goes to Hell – The Final Friday, to many, is not Friday 13th part 9. It’s seen as a misfire. A total insult to the franchise, that limped to a halt with the weak ‘Jason Takes Manhattan’ in 1989
For my money, Jason Goes to Hell was exactly what was needed after New Line obtained distribution from paramount. Into the 90s, horror was struggling big time with most titles going straight to home video. No money was being made. Enter film maker Adam Marcus and red hot SFX crew KNB armed with a story so ‘out there’ and BUCKETS of gore, that any horror fan (apart from the purists) would find this film hard to resist. If you’ve never seen it before, I highly recommend giving it a try.
It’s basically Jason meets Evil Dead via The Hidden. I know, sound wild and it is. Everyone involved knew they were serving up something different, almost winking at the audience at times with it. It’s a riot.
Arrow have resurrected this massively underrated splatter fest in glorious, fully uncut, 4K. You’ve NEVER seen or heard it like this before.
The new HDR transfer keeps the dark cinematography looking great while the soundtrack is just as beautiful and bombastic.
The extra features included are nothing short of outstanding. From the directors enthusiastic and revealing commentary and behind the scenes interview to a new interview with KNB on the excellent SFX, along with Several interviews with key players from infront and behind the camera. An essential package for fans and newcomers.
