Review: Mega Time Squad
Blu-ray: Mega Time Squad (2018)
I love time travel films. Time After Time, 12 Monkeys, Peggy Sue Got Married, The Terminator, Safety Not Guaranteed, all of them have that quirky ‘What would you do, if you could go back in time’? vibe going on.
In Mega Time Squad, John (Anton Tennet) would rob a shit load of money and run off with the girl of his dreams.
Director/writer Tim van Dammen’s Mega Time Squad is a laugh out loud, clever crime comedy that has more dopey criminals in than seems possible.
John lives in a garage (he’s about to be evicted), and is one of local crime boss Shelton (Jonny Brugh from ‘What We Do in the Shadows’) cronies.
Shelton orders John and best mate Gaz (Arlo Gibson) to intercept a money-for-drugs drop at an antiques store by a rival Chinese-triad gang. Mid-heist, John notices a charm bracelet on the counter and takes it despite the owner warning him not to (Gremlins like).
John inadvertently and in the middle of being chased by the triads, finds out the bracelet is a time travel…thingy and…apparently Doc Brown was wrong about the time travel continuum, because soon there are several Johns all helping each other to better Sheldon and win Kelly, Sheldon’s little sister\’s, heart.
Mega Time Squad is essentially a farce, a lot of silly stuff but never confusing and always good natured. The ensemble cast are fab, the film itself is snappy and clever and most of all it\’s very funny.
