Review: Never Look Away
Cinema: Never Look Away (2024)
Have you ever heard of Margaret Moth? Nope me either. Not until I saw Lucy Lawless’ new documentary about her, ‘Never Look Away’. Looking like a mixture of Elvira and Chrissie Hynde, Moth was a force in photojournalism.
This documentary hints at a troubled childhood, but mainly concentrates on her life as a journalist and also her varied love life. In 1980, Moth moved to the United States and ended up working for CNN covering war torn countries like the Persian Gulf War. She was also in Bosnia, Chechnya and the Lebanon.
In 1992 while on a job, Moth was shot and literally had part of her face blown off while filming in Sniper Alley in Sarajevo. Despite her injuries, she returned to work only 2 years later.
It’s a good documentary filled with her (many) ex-boyfriends (all proclaiming she loved only them) talking about her, but we never hear from Margaret herself, we never get a real look at who she was and why she continued to do what she did.
An interesting look into her life that ultimately leaves you wanting to know more.
