Review: Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2
I didn’t play the first Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl so can’t really comment on any improvements in gameplay, characters, etc, and despite not being a huge fan of “fighting” games, I have enjoyed many a session on the Super Smash Bros series of games with my son…of which this game shares a lot of common ground.
First and foremost, this game is a hell of a lot of fun, with engaging characters, eye candy graphics, great sound design (including well voice acted characters), intuitive controls that don’t take too long to become second nature, and a Slime meter…more on that in a bit.
Nickelodeon All Star Brawl 2 is a platform fighter, pitting you against human or AI controlled opponents across a series of levels that vary in both their looks and their verticality…some levels are just flat. Using these levels and everything in them, as well as your own unique moves, to try and outwit and outfight all put before you…all accompanied by a big splash of humour.
The aforementioned Slime meter slowly fills as you fight, and once activated can add power to your special moves, help escape combos, boost your air dodge and much more…including a cutscene accompanied strong attack that may well outstay its welcome after a while…the cutscene that is, not the attacks.
The campaign mode is slight on story but has enough funny moments throughout to keep you interested, with boss fights that even I could manage…which is definitely a plus.
There is an arcade mode and training mode, along with online play with ranked and unranked sessions…all of which played flawlessly whenever I dipped into them.
While this is an enjoyable single player experience, it really comes into its own when played with friends either on the couch with you or online.
A FUN game that will have you smiling throughout…along with some lighthearted trash talk moments for when playing with friends.
