Review: Paydirt
DVD & Digital HD: Paydirt (2020)
Damien Brooks (Luke Goss) is released from prison after being incarcerated for 5 years and immediately finds that the world has changed a hell of a lot during that time.
However, one thing that hasn’t changed is his determination to find a buried bag of cash that went missing five years ago from a DEA bust gone wrong.
Teaming up with his old crew, Damien must try to outwit a cartel boss who also wants the money that originally his, while at the same time avoiding the prying eyes of disgraced Sheriff Tucker (Val Kilmer) who was involved in the botched drug bust all those years ago and wants to redeem himself.
Recording an interview show with Luke Goss about Paydirt made me appreciate it more, hearing about the short timespan in which it was made and the fact that the whole project stemmed from a bunch of friends just wanting to get together for a few weeks during a break in their schedules and have some fun together making a movie.
Luke is an accomplished actor and plays his part well, not having to “chew the scenery” to give an impending sense of menace to his character, and while it is great to see Val Kilmer on the screen after his health issues, it was also sad to hear that his voice had to be dubbed by someone else.
Paydirt (by Luke’s own admission) isn’t meant to be taken seriously and isn’t going to win any awards, but if you’re a Luke Goss and/or Val Kilmer fan, then it’s always good to see them in yet another project.
Paydirt is available to buy now on DVD from 101 Films.
