Review: Smoove & Turrell – It Ain’t Working (Remixes)

I was interested to see how these set of remixes worked out. For the uninitiated (and the rock you have been living under must have been huge!) It Ain’t Working is the second track on the superb Stratos Bleu; Smoove & Turrell’s sixth studio album and in this writer’s opinion their best so far. The track itself is a reflective lightly funky piece and a predecessor to the album’s next track behemoth that is Elgin Towers. So how does it work out with two producers stepping up to the remix plate?

Ashley Beedle grabs the first 2 versions getting heavy on the strings and basslines turning it into a full-on house number then dropping John Turrell’s soulful vocals for a dancefloor dub monster. Newcomer (ok new to me) Sorley jarring bass riffs take the tune to another audience but still keeps it infectious. Four tracks repeated many times over, I’m happy to inform 60MW that actually it’s working very well.
