Review: Smut Without Smut Vol. 1 – Things to Come + The Dirty Dolls
Blu-ray: Smut Without Smut Vol. 1: Things to Come (1976) + The Dirty Dolls (1973)
There are many “adults only” genre movies, covering sci-fi, horror, action, etc…but what if these movies had the smut removed and you watched them just for their narrative rather than seeing writhing flesh every 10 minutes?
This is the choice given to you with the upcoming 101 Films release of Smut Without Smut Vol. 1: Things to Come + The Dirty Dolls, the latest in their AGFA series of releases.
With the option to watch both movies either with or without the smut (I watched both versions of both movies…purely for research of course…and with the curtains firmly closed to stop any passersby peering in at the most inopportune of moments onscreen) it was very interesting to see how everything came together (no pun intended) with scenes missing.
Things To Come was by far my favourite, set in a dystopian future where you choose how long you want to work for and then spend the rest of the year sat at home watching people shagging on the television.
Julie leaves her porn watching husband (he chose to work for 3 months and is spending the remaining 9 months glued to the TV…and his couch no doubt by the end of it) and plans to investigate a mysterious cult which ultimately ends in a way that she definitely wasn’t expecting.
Sex robots and wobbly sets abound in this cheap futuristic sci-fi tale that kept me smiling all the way through it…especially a scene involving “death bikes” where Julie is in grave danger of being cut to ribbons by cardboard covered dirt bikes.
The Dirty Dolls has shades of the Manson murders about it, as it follows psychopath Johnny and his cultish gang of women as they embark on a bizarro crime spree filled with stolen diamonds, senior citizen drag, grimy sex, and cold-blooded murder.
The 70’s fashion is always awesome to see and it was funny to see a heist go tits up (literally at times) AFTER they had gotten away with it all.
The sex scenes in both movies are full of boobs, bush and bottoms, with the occasional flash of a flacid widge from the male side of things. Lots of groaning, groping and rolling around a lot isn’t exactly high erotica, so watching with these scenes removed makes for a tighter experience…no pun intended again.
I’m already looking forward to watching whatever movies are in Vol 2…with the curtains shut again of course.
