Review: Source Code 4K UHD
4K UHD Blu-ray: Source Code (2011)
Source Code is a 2011 U.S. science fiction action thriller film directed by Duncan Jones and written by Ben Ripley. It stars Jake Gyllenhaal as U.S. Army Captain Colter Stevens, who is sent into an eight-minute virtual re-creation of a real-life train explosion, tasked with determining the identity of the terrorist who bombed it. Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga, and Jeffrey Wright play supporting roles.
U.S. Army pilot Captain Colter Stevens seems to wake up on a commuter train going into Chicago. He doesn’t know how he’s ended up there and is very disoriented, he’s sitting across from Christina (Michelle Monaghan) who’s chatting to him as if she knows who he is. However, his last memory was of flying a mission in Afghanistan. The train blows up killing everyone.
Stevens wakes up in what appears to be the crashed cockpit of his plane and is being asked questions via a screen by Captain Colleen Goodwin (Vera Farmiga). He’s being tasked to find the bomber, and no one will tell him where he is, and what’s going on.
Source Code is a sci-fi thriller, and is a pretty good watch, though I have to admit there are several plot holes that I kept questioning this time. Gyllenhaal is always watchable but on this rewatch I found it wasn’t quite hitting the mark as much as a first watch (much like The Sixth Sense).
The picture and sound are great on this release and the commentary track is well worth listening to.
