Review: Spiritwalker
Digital: Spiritwalker (2020)
Imagine waking up in the aftermath of a car crash with a gunshot wound, no memory of what’s happened or even who you are.
Now imagine that as you’re trying to piece together what the hell has happened to you, after every 12 hours has passed you transport into the body of another person.
What do you do?
This is the dilemma that our protagonist finds himself in, and under a constant 12 hour countdown must try to solve this mystery before the people who are hunting him finally catch-up…and they don’t seem very pleasant.
Though thoughts of the TV series Quantum Leap may have already jumped into your mind (as it did with me when watching), Spiritwalker soon pushed those thoughts to one side and kept me thoroughly entertained for all of its 108 minute running time.
The action (though sporadic) worked well, but it was the characters that drew me in to the twisting narrative, making me genuinely want to discover what was happening and what their fate would be.
Director and writer Jae-geun Yoon keeps everything moving along at a fair old pace, always reminding you that everything is going to change once again when the next onscreen 12 hours have passed, and while the narrative unfurls, the hand to hand fights, shootouts, car & foot chases all keep the adrenaline flowing.
With great visuals and an immersive soundscape, Spiritwalker draws you into its ever changing world and makes you want to stay in it until the mystery is solved.
I too would be “Hot Dog” man…now you’ll have to watch to see what that means!
