Review: The Final Wish
Digital HD: The Final Wish (2018)
Aaron (Michael Welch) is a young man, who after the death of his father, returns home to help his grieving mother (Lin Shaye). It is here that he discovers a strange item that seems to have mystical powers.
After inadvertently “wishing something would happen”, it does. The question is though; was it pure coincidence, or did this new found item grant his wish?
To find out the truth Aaron has to of course make more wishes, but when they too begin to come true, a strange twist makes the outcome of them not exactly what he originally intended.
Following a similar narrative to the Wishmaster series of movies, The Final Wish unfortunately isn’t as scary, engaging, or as enjoyable as them.
It’s always great to see Lin Share and Tony Todd on screen, but their appearances are few and far between, leaving the rest of the movie to be carried by actors who are not particularly great, and also hampered by playing characters who are dull and lifeless, and for which little empathy is raised.
While not rising to any great heights, The Final Wish is by no means awful…just mediocre.
If you are a horror completist then this is a fairly painless way to spend 95 minutes, however, for everyone else there is much better out there which covers similar ground.
