Review: The Invisible Man (The Complete Series)
Blu-ray & DVD: The Invisible Man (The Complete Series) (1975-6)
I was 10 years old when this was originally shown and I absolutely loved it, and while it may not have the same appeal now I’m considerably older, it was still an absolute treat to revisit this series that sadly only ran for just the one series.
David McCallum stars as Dr. Daniel Westin, a scientist at a U.S think-tank who discovers that the government intends to use his newly created invisibility formula for unspeakable deeds…you know, the usual government schtick. Determined not to let the government have it, he renders himself invisible and destroys the only batch ever created…and quite possibly any hope of ever returning to human form.
He masks his invisibility by wearing a latex skin, taking it off to help fight criminal activities, all helped by his wife and other allies, all while trying to find a cure that will make him visible again.
The Invisible Man isn’t action packed, relying on its storylines and actors to keep the viewers tuning in. Thankfully both the stories and actors do their part in doing this, all with the added advantage of some “invisible trickery” to keep you entertained and amused whenever Westin has to shed his skin and start solving crimes.
The visual effects are of course very dated, but they still hold a certain charm that makes you smile whenever they happen.
I’m very happy that this series is now once again available on both DVD & Blu-ray thanks to this release by Fabulous Films.
