Review: The Krays – Kill Order
DVD: The Krays – Kill Order (2015)
Hot on the trail of Brian Helgeland’s ‘Legend’ comes this documentary by Christopher Matthews. It gives a thorough look at the twins origins and contains many ‘talking head’ interviews with a lot of their contemporaries, including Frankie Fraser, Eddie Richardson, Maureen Flanagan and Billy Frost. Although most of the interviewees do the usual ‘they were gangsters with hearts of gold’ several of them admit to them being dangerous, a bit mad, and murderers.
I suppose the main problem with this documentary is we’ve seen/heard it all before. There have been so many documentaries on the Kray twins that even I, as someone who finds the glorification of such people questionable, know their life story. This has one revelation concerning Reggie’s wife’s suicide that has absolutely no proof to back it up. The presenter, who I assume is the director (?) is rather strange. He has no screen presence whatsoever and is so wooden I was baffled by him. His obvious disgust at Ronnie’s homosexuality is quite offensive.
This would probably only appeal to diehard fans of the Krays, even then it’s very amateur and a bit boring.
The Krays – Kill Order will be released on DVD on September 14th.
