Review: Trumptonshire
As a child of the 60s, Trumpton, Camberwick Green and Chigley were all essential viewing as I was growing up, Gordon Murray’s timeless classics transporting me and many other kids (and adults too) into an alternate stop motion world where all the events were narrated by the unforgettable voice of Brian Cant.
The beautiful set design, the earworm music, the Trumpton clock, the Camberwick Green music box slowly opening, the characters…who can forget the likes of Windy Miller, or the firemen “Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble and Grubb“. All of that and much more forever ingrained into the minds of viewers of the time when there were only 3 channels to watch and children’s TV shows were sporadically scheduled, and if you didn’t watch them while they were being broadcast then you’d have to wait until next time.
Coming in not too far short of 10 hours, this box set is a hugely enjoyable nostalgia trip for people my age, while also being a revelation for younger viewers today being able to experience what their parents and grandparents watched all those years ago.
All 3 series of shows are also available to buy individually (DVD & Blu-ray) if you only want to relive the memories of one specific show, but I’d highly recommend for buying this great set with them all together, which also includes an exclusive interview with creator Gordon Murray, filmed on his 90th Birthday in May 2011, as well as a Creating Trumptonshire featurette and photo gallery.
