Review: Friday the 13th 4K UHD
Available for the 1st time in 4K with HDR in the UK, is the seminal Friday the 13th; a movie which kickstarted the slasher genre into the 1980’s, while also becoming a standard trivia question thereafter; “Who is the killer in the 1980 movie Friday the 13th?“…it’s surprising how many people still get that wrong!
Quite simply, the narrative is a simple one: teens go to a summer camp, fool around and then get killed. The now cliched “have sex and then die” is of course also present.
While not as gory (or as good?) as some of the later Friday the 13th movies, this is still a classic within the horror genre, and I’ve never seen it look better than it does on this 4K release by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The colours and bright and crisp, though the added visual clarity does expose some of the older practical makeup effects (such as latex joins, etc).
The contrast in the night scenes makes previously unseen details much easier to recognise, and also add to the whole atmosphere of the movie, especially as the majority of it is set during the night.
Some great special features, along with very nice artwork on the cover, makes this a horror classic that should be on everyone’s shelves.
