Review: Little Shop of Horrors 4K UHD
A sort of remake of the 1960 film The Little Shop of Horrors directed by Roger Corman, the 1986 film stars Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Vincent Gardenia, Steve Martin, and Levi Stubbs as the voice of Audrey II.
In the early 1960s Seymour Krelborn and Audrey, work at Mushnik’s Flower Shop in a rundown skid row neighbourhood of New York City. The shop is struggling from a lack of customers, so the owner Mr. Mushnik decides to close the store, until Audrey suggests he display an unusual plant that Seymour owns.
Immediately attracting a customer, Seymour explains he bought the plant – “Audrey II” – from a Chinese flower shop during a solar eclipse. The plant brings customers to Mushnik’s flower shop but soon starts to wither. Seymour accidentally pricks his finger and discovers that Audrey II needs human blood to thrive.
Musical chaos ensues.
This new 4 K UHD release by Warner Bros reinstates the original ending (no spoilers), and Little Shop of Horrors is a delight despite it being… 40 years old. It’s lost none of its fun or charm, and seeing it in glorious 4K is a treat, almost as much of a treat as seeing Steve Martin as a .. demonic biker dentist.
Fantastic.
