Review: Michael Powell – Early Works
A very interesting and enjoyable collection of Michael Powell’s early works which look fantastic on this blu-ray release.

This is not a horror anthology like Creepshow or Tales from the Crypt, this has every intention of trying to rip your eyeballs out of their sockets as you watch and leave your brain spinning as more bizarre visuals and situations are thrown in front of you with a bloody splat.
This is a must buy if you’re a fan of Riddick – I mean just look at all these lovely extras.
It’s a strange thing about Armoured Saint. Formed around the same time as many of their peers – Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax etc – and probably having the best singer of the bunch in John Bush, weirdly not many people have heard of them!
Hard Miles tells the story of Greg Townsend (Matthew Modine), a prison social worker who takes a rag tag team of teenage convicts with him on a 762 Mile Bike Ride from Colorado to the Grand Canyon.
The narrative is a simple one; a group of 5 friends all get together at an exotic location for a pre-wedding party, part of which involves getting on a small boat to an isolated island for some ‘girl time’.
This 1986 film is the definition of a cult classic, a favourite of mine from the VHS days and now available in glorious 4K with a new scan overseen by the director (Robert Harmon).
Eddie; seeped in booze, wobbling through life. Richie; vain, stupid, bossy, trying to be posh. Both of them ultra-violent (in a slapstick way) and in need of a shag off a nice bird in a smashing blouse.
Apparently, Red Sun is Quentin Tarantino’s favourite ‘spaghetti’ western, and it’s easy to see why.
A classic of not just the 90s, but one which still holds up strong today.
