Review: Bride of Re-Animator
Blu-ray: Bride of Re-Animator (1989)
Eight months after the massacre at Miskatonic, we find Doctors Herbert West and Dan Cain working as medics in the middle of a civil war in Peru. It’s obvious from the start that West is up to his old ‘Re-animating the dead’ tricks again, and it’s not long until they’re back in the USA causing chaos.
Although gory this film is a lot more tongue in cheek than ‘Re-Aninmator’ and also has several laugh out loud moments. Jeffrey Combs gives yet another amazing performance as Herbert West (but when has Jeff ever given a bad performance?) ably assisted by Bruce Abbot as Cain. Special mention to David Gale who despite having his head crushed in Pt 1 is back with renewed vigor as Dr Carl Hill. It’s basically the same as Re-Animator, but funnier and a great way to spend an hour and a half.
Arrow give us a sterling package again, with a really funny commentary from Combs and Abbot, a sparkling newly restored unrated film and various documentaries about the making of the film.
