Review: Creepozoids
Blu-ray: Creepozoids (1987)
I watched Creepozoids far too many times than I probably should have back in the days of VHS, but hadn’t had a rewatch for a long time when I was offered this 101 Films upcoming blu-ray release to review.
Now of course the picture quality is a huge upgrade from what I had been used to, though that does make clear the budgetary restraints for an indie horror/sci-fi movie like this, with wires and boom mics making more appearances than I had ever seen before. This just added to the charm though of this David DeCoteau helmed futuristic romp…with the future being the post nuclear hellscape of 1998!
The narrative is a simple one (as are the sets); a group of survivors find an abandoned government research facility and take shelter in it, not knowing that they are going to become the prey of a leftover experiment that has been trapped there.
Highlight of the cast for genre fans is of course the great Linnea Quigley, who originally was going to play another character in the movie…one of the many interesting facts dished out by David DeCoteau in his highly entertaining commentary track…play a drinking game where you take a shot every time he says “Boom!” and I guarantee you’ll be passed out before the end credits.
DeCoteau also tells a story about actress Kim McKamy, who may be better known by another name to some people out there…I’ll leave it at that.
Creepozoids is a fun low budget genre flick that knows its limitations and runs with them, throwing in some enjoyable blood and gloop along the way.
Pick it up from 101 Films and watch how many times “the door” appears…another nugget of info imparted by DeCoteau during his commentary.
