Review: Gioteck SC3 Pro Wireless Controller
One of the great things about the Nintendo Switch is that not only can you use it as a portable gaming console while on the go, you can also hook it up to a TV/monitor and sit back and enjoy some big screen gaming.
In both instances the included joy-cons are serviceable enough, but to get the best gaming experience a more traditional controller is desirable, and while Nintendo offers their Pro Controller, there are other 3rd party compatible controllers to choose from, one being the Gioteck SC3 Pro Wireless Controller.
Compatible with all 3 iterations of the Switch (original, Lite and OLED), the SC3 Pro includes motion control for all the games that support it, customisable RGB lighting, and easily changeable magnetic thumbsticks. You can also set the controller to your own desired preferences through the programable back buttons.
The form factor of the controller will be very familiar to anyone who has ever seen a Switch Pro or Xbox controller, with the offset thumbsticks and 4 button, 4 trigger layout, complete with textured grips which help with those particularly tense and sweaty gaming sessions.
A much appreciated feature is the volume controller on the bottom of the controller, which is easy to use yet not in a place that you would hit it by accident. Right next to it is a 3.5mm jack to plug your headphones in.
The inbuilt gyroscope works great with all the games that use motion control, and this could easily have been a feature that Gioteck didn’t include, especially at the price point this sells for, and I have to admit that using motion control in the dark with the controllers RGB lighting on did make the kid in me smile.
The programmable buttons are very easy to use and make a huge difference while gaming. Having the ability to set up the controller just how you want it to be can be the difference between winning or losing a race or setting a new high score. Also helping with your gaming are the comfortable triggers which never tired my fingers…something which other controllers have done in the past.
The inbuilt rumble is serviceable enough, though I have to admit that in most games I turn rumble off in the options…gaming heathen that I am!
The battery never died on me despite lengthy gaming sessions (possibly helped by me turning rumble off in the games), and this was also during some late night gaming sessions where I just couldn’t help but have that RGB light on.
The SC3 Pro is comfortable, responsive, and has a wealth of features that make your gaming sessions all the more enjoyable and personalised.
