Review: Nightmare at Noon
Blu-ray: Nightmare at Noon (1988)
Written and directed by Nico Mastorakis, starring Wings Hauser, Bo Hopkins, George Kennedy, Kimberly Beck, and Brion James…that’s all I needed to know before thinking “I’m in!“…and Nightmare at Noon certainly didn’t let me down.
‘The Albino’ (the always watchable Brion James, seen here with face “almost” all covered in white make-up and relying on scary looks rather than any dialogue) leads a crack team in contaminating the water supply of a remote American town.
Once anyone drinks any of the water they are turned into violent psychopaths who attack on sight and for some strange reason then begin to bleed green whenever injured.
This doesn’t bode well for Ken and Cheri Griffiths (Wings Hauser and Kimberly Beck) who are travelling through the area in their motorhome and have recently picked up a mysterious stranger (Reilly – Bo Hopkins).
Due to The Albino setting up a series of EMP traps on the outskirts of town, Ken, Cheri and Reilly are trapped and forced to fight for their survival, along with the help of the local Sheriff (George Kennedy) and his daughter Julia (Kimberly Ross).
Nightmare at Noon is the type of 80’s action movie that I live for…ridiculous action, corny dialogue, crazy characters, an even crazier narrative, and all rounded off by a big dollop of 80s movie cheese…delicious!
The picture quality is great, with vibrant colours and just a fine veneer of film grain, all making this look better than ever before, while the special features add an extra layer of enjoyment and appreciation for this movie…where you’ll also be able to appreciate the music of Stanley Myers and Hans Zimmer.
While not quite as ridiculous as the likes of Samurai Cop, Hard Ticket to Hawaii, etc, if you’re a fan of those movies you should definitely check this out too.
