Review: Oil in the Blood
Blu-ray & DVD: Oil in the Blood (2019)
Let\’s get one thing clear from the beginning: I\’ve never been a huge fan of motorcycles.
I went to the TT races (twice) in the Isle of Man in the early 1980\’s, I used to watch the Anglo-American Transatlantic Match Races at Oulton Park (also in the 1980\’s), and I almost came off the back of one at high speed in Canada. And yes, that was also in the 1980\’s.
I\’ve always been a 4 wheel guy (Mazda RX7 was my car in my 20\’s) and never really taken much notice of motorcycles.
However, I do love documentaries, and when offered Oil in the Blood by Aim Publicity, I was intrigued as to what it was like.
The tagline for the documentary sums it up perfectly: \”This isn\’t a film about motorcycles, it\’s a film about motorcycle people\”, and while motorcycles are a huge part of the onscreen narrative, it is the people behind them that is the focus of the documentary.
Oil in the Blood is about custom motorcycles, and more specifically, the people and the culture behind it all, from individuals with the bare minimum of money and equipment, through to larger organisations with computer design software and a larger budget and team of people to work with.
The story of people absolutely committed to and loving their passion is the heartbeat (or should that be \’piston throb\’?) of Oil in the Blood, complete with fascinating stories of how they came to be involved in custom motorcycles, and more importantly, why they still continue to be involved in it.
Money worries, people problems, and technical difficulties are all put to one side in the pursuit of creating a work of art. And these these motorcycles are most definitely works of art.
Despite beginning this review stating that I\’m not \’a motorcycle person\’, I lost count of the amount of times I uttered to myself \”wow\”, or \”holy shit that\’s good\”, or even many more much stronger expressions of awe and disbelief.
The finished products on display here are amazing, as are the many events across the world in which they are shown. Each event having its own particular style and attracting people from all walks of life.
If you love documentaries, if you love getting an inside view into the lives and passions of people, then Oil in the Blood is highly recommended.
If you also love motorcycles, then the added bonus of some \’2 wheel porn\’ means you\’ll be buying it before even watching the trailer below.
