Review: The Blitz 80th Anniversary
DVD & Digital: The Blitz 80th Anniversary (2021)
This new documentary from Reel 2 Reel Films commemorates 80 years since “The Blitz”: Between 1940 and 1941, the German Luftwaffe regularly bombed different areas of Britain, including the relentless bombing of London, over 56 nights. Sadly the devastating campaign saw more than 40,000 civilians killed in what was to become known as The Blitz.
Showcasing hitherto unseen archive footage from the time, alongside emotional interviews with the people who lived through it and fought for their country, it takes the viewer through stories of heroism, stoicism, and the enduring nature of the human spirit to never give up.
Stories from the young RAF men of the time detail how sleep deprived flights tested both their mental and physical capabilities; all with the weight and expectations of the country on their young soldiers.
History is there to learn from and never be forgotten, so it is good that this DVD & Digital release keeps the stories and memories of all those involved in ‘The Blitz’ alive today.
