Review: Trancers Ltd Ed 4K UHD
4K UHD Blu-ray: Trancers (1984)
Trancers; one of the most ‘WTF’ films out there. Even now I have NO idea what the hell it’s about, but it’s very watchable and fun and holds up beautifully despite its age (1984).
Jack Deth (the wonderful Tim Thomerson) is a quite old, but very sexy, retired police trooper in the 23rd century, who has been called back into service to hunt down Martin Whistler (Michael Stefani), a criminal mastermind who uses psychic powers to turn people into mindless ‘Trancers’ and carry out his orders.
Deth can identify a tranced individual by scanning them with his special bracelet. All Trancers appear as normal humans at first, but once triggered (still don’t know how they get triggered OR time travel!) they develop melty faces and KILL. This is where it starts getting complicated, with time travel and Helen Hunt who is way too young to be his love interest but seems quite into all the snogging and groping.
This is terrible and just wonderful at the same time, and Thomerson should have been a much bigger star.
Unmissable…especially in this great 1st time 4K UHD UK release from 101 Films.
