Review: Werewolves Within
DVD & Digital HD: Werewolves Within (2021)
Based on the Ubisoft published video game of the same name, Werewolves Within is based around a newly-arrived forest ranger to a small American town, who after a severe snowstorm confines him and some of the townspeople into an old lodge, discovers that not only are there many irreconcilable differences between them, there is also the possibility that a werewolf could be on the loose too.
Relying more on genuinely witty dialogue, memorable characters and great performances, other than a glut of CGI effects, Werewolves Within drew me into its dark humoured heart from the very beginning and kept me there until the end credits rolled.
Sam Richardson (who can also be seen in the recently released The Tomorrow War) plays the ‘new to town’ forest ranger Finn Wheeler wonderfully, displaying all of the confusion and excitement that anyone arriving in a new job can relate to, while Milana Vayntrub is whiplash smart as the towns mail person who helps Finn to acclimatise under unusual circumstances.
Slow paced and low on blood & guts, this may well deter some lycanthrope fans from giving it a watch, but to do so would be to miss out on an engaging and entertaining tale which had me smiling all the way through.
I quite fancy playing the game now!
Werewolves Within is released on DVD & Digital HD on 19th July 2021.
