Review: Convoy 4K UHD
4K UHD Blu-ray: Convoy (1978)
Based on the hit CW McCall song of the same name, Convoy tells the story of Martin “Rubber Duck” Penwald (Kris Kristofferson); an American truck driver who gets on the wrong side of Sheriff Lyle Wallace (Ernest Borgnine), becoming entangled in a media frenzy as a convoy of truckers follow in “the Duck’s” slipstream in a drive for freedom and redemption.
Convoy has always held a special place in my heart, as I loved the CW McCall song (I still have the 7″ single), and I went to see the movie in the cinema on release back in 1978 and I’ve watched it numerous times since, but never has it looked as great as on this upcoming 4K UHD release from Studiocanal, which gives those huge American vistas an even more impressive look than I’ve ever seen them in this movie.
While the narrative is admittedly slim, director Sam Peckinpah throws in enough (silly) action sequences to keep you entertained, mostly involving police cars crashing and jumping off heights.
The special features (including a host of brand new ones) are informative and entertaining and well worth your time going through them all.
With Kris Kristofferson recently passing away, this is the perfect time to pick this up and revisit one of his best known roles.
